What do you mean by "Wholesome Dog Boarding?"
For US, it's what we want for and give to our own precious pups
when we have to be away from them. We do all possible to
securely maintain the routines of their familiar little worlds with no
stress aside from us being apart. Our dogs...
Club Happy Dog creates boarding solutions for our own dogs which replicate their familiar, comfortable routine and environs as closely as possible, and we're happy to do the same for you. Your currently enrolled dog (a requirement) will enjoy the daily excursions we offer 365 days a year, receiving important exercise and socialization each day with loved and trusted human and canine friends. Beyond that, you may either construct a home solution involving family, friends, or our staff house-sitting, or have your dog stay with us in our home. Each client/dog situation is individual. We invite you to contact us so that we can create the best solution together for your dog when you are away. We will only take a few well behaved dogs in our home at a time to maintain a comfortable and stress-free ambiance, so please advise of your need well in advance of your trip.
Q: My Betsy's not enrolled in your Club. Would you board her? A: NO. It would not be familiar, routine, nor stress-free.
Do you offer dog training?
We're real different than other services. Usually "training" and "exercise" are separated. We find that this is quite unnatural for dogs (probably human kids too), and that it makes good sense to naturally combine the two. We do not preclude professional trainers - in fact we have great appreciation for their skill, patience and results. We simply use natural opportunities to get dogs and puppies on the right track for being well mannered, attentive, and responsive. Through the course of our outings, they learn to greet humans without jumping, to relax territorially with neighborhood dogs, to walk politely without pulling on lead, to remain calm during transport, to not charge through doors or gates, to only bark when there's a darn good reason, to come with a simple cue when called off leash, to play politely with other dogs, to stop any undesired behavior on call, etc. And what's cool for mom & dad is that this is included in the price of a "dog walker" - although we think we're much more.

NO. Treat based training introduces aggression risk into our group dynamics from the more dominant Club members. This is why food is never allowed at any dog park. Along the same line, any toy which is possessively protected by any Club dog, or favored at any time by more than one, is removed from play.

Plus each day's meet up destination is communicated to the team early morning based on our PICK given whether there's a cool marine layer, pending storms, a high tide or rip current, traffic snafus, or there's a new dog to introduce.

We're not generally a big fan of Dog Parks, as they present a risky circus-type atmosphere, particularly from the "dog walkers" who unload 20+ from their too-tiny-for-that-many-uncaged-dogs vehicles. But at times we'll take our dogs to Dog Parks to give them confidence & conditioning. That way when and if you ever want to take Fido to a Dog Park, he/she will not be overwhelmed by the atmosphere, but instead will join in the festivities with relative ease.

Through no fault of their own, none of the largest, most lovely dog kennel boarding facilities can offer our view of "wholesome boarding." Dogs must be directed through a rigid food-rest-exercise regime as compared to peaceful home style looseness where our dogs eat, play and rest at whim, with deep snoozes on their own comfy home beds instead of in cages, crates or compact rooms with nerve-wracking background barking. Dogs are stressed by the unfamiliar and often crowded settings, and the staffs sapped during peak holiday and summer volumes. Helpers supervise the play exercise of loads of varying dogs each day, with challenging dominance jockeying, shyness fear, bullying aggression, and more. They are consumed by dog fight interventions & non-stop cleaning, neither of which creates much joy or happiness. Plus many clients don't appreciate that it is not the fault of the boarder when their dog ends up with diarrhea from all the routine changes, or playground injuries from "dogs will be dogs," despite prior positive assessments of all guests.
Boarding facilities can't offer OUR PUPS a "paradise" or "utopia" for when we have to be away from them.
